Learning more about the different types of acne and what causes them can help protect against acne even before it emerges. Helping you to have less stressed out, more comfortable and clearer skin. Acne begins when the skin produces too much sebum, which gets trapped in the pores. The clogged pore promotes the growth of a bacteria called P. acnes, which is the root cause of breakouts. With the help of Neutrogena® Acne products, you can help prevent breakouts before they have the chance to surface.
What's the difference?
A blackhead is a clogged pore, with an opening which turns dark when exposed to air. A whitehead is also a clogged pore, but it sits under the surface of the skin. This causes a white bump to protrude through the surface. The best way to fight blackheads and whiteheads is by removing excess oil and sloughing off dead skin cells. Remember that acne can take weeks to emerge so it can also take weeks to notice improvements. It may not feel like it when the breakout seems never ending, but you will see a difference after a period of time.
Regulate your oily skin
Oily skin can affect us all – especially during puberty – and controlling shiny skin can feel like mission impossible when all you crave is a flawless matt complexion. The good news is that there are things you can do to control the excess, such as staying clear of oil-based skincare, makeup and hair products. Stress is another factor which can trigger acne, because it causes the production of a hormone called cortisol. Not only does this tell the body to create more sebum, it also lowers the immune system, making the fight against acne even harder for your poor skin. Stress results in more breakouts, so try to keep levels under control by getting plenty of sleep, doing regular exercise (Yoga is great for de-stressing) and taking time out for yourself.
