Skin Care Routines Explained

The key to beautiful skin is a regular skincare routine that is tailored to your skin type. But where do you start when putting together your own skincare regimen? Just follow these simple steps and enjoy clean, fresh skin.

Face Wash

The first step in every skincare regime should be to cleanse and wash the skin, removing all dead skin, oil and dirt that could potentially clog pores and create a pimple. Cleansers come in a multitude of configurations, with cleansing balms, lotions and foaming washes available, depending on your skin type. Never use household soap to wash your face – it’s not made for facial skincare and can dry out the skin.

Moisturise

The next step, after removing all that dirt and oil from your skin, is to infuse it with moisture to keep it fresh, prevent dryness and delay the onset of wrinkles. Moisturisers are available for all ages and skin types – once you know your skin type, it’s easy to choose the moisturiser that will offer the best results.

Sunscreen

Many moisturisers have UV protection built in, but if yours doesn’t have this component, it’s important to apply a light layer of sunscreen before leaving the house. This protects the skin from harmful UV rays and keeps it youthful-looking for longer.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation doesn’t need to be a part of your daily routine, but you should use an exfoliating scrub or wash once or twice a week to remove build-up of dead skin cells. Exfoliation invigorates the skin, leaving it soft, pure and radiant.

Moisturising at night

If you suffer from dry skin, adding another moisturiser to your regime at night can work wonders, giving your skin a double dose of the hydration it needs and letting it work while you rest. There are a multitude of night-specific moisturisers out there which renew the skin cells while you’re asleep – they’re generally a little thicker than daytime creams and lotions, because they have much longer to be absorbed into the skin.

Don’t sleep with your make-up on!

If you wear make-up on a daily basis, you should never, ever sleep with it still on your face. A soft, light make-up remover will get rid of all traces – our Neutrogena® Make-Up Remover Cleansing Towelettes are ideal for quick and easy wiping away of cosmetic products. If you want to be totally sure your skin is clean before you go to sleep, use a cleanser and moisturiser once more.
So there you have it – your foolproof skincare regime! Follow these steps to the letter and you’ll have picture-perfect skin in no time.
